Cheltenham council approves four-site development brief

Cheltenham borough council yesterday approved a development brief for the 3.5ha (8.65-acre) site covering Gloucester Place, Sherborne Place and Fairview Road.

Within this area the development brief identifies four sites as having “potential for redevelopment, although opportunities on land immediately adjacent to these sites may arise”.

The sites are occupied by: Trainers Car Sales (0.7ha/1.73 acres), Haines & Strange Garage (0.61ha/1.5 acres), George Bence & Sons (0.8ha/1.98 acres) and Cheltenham borough council (0.3ha/0.74 acres).

The council is keen to see housing, retail, business and leisure development. Site 1 in Fairview Road is said to provide an “opportunity for a mixed-use development” which relates to shopping centre in Winchcombe Street. Also in Fairview Road, site 2 is said to be suitable for a mixed-use, residential-led scheme. Site 3 in Sherborne Place and Site 4 to the east have been earmarked for residential development.
