Sheffield One seeks Cathedral Quarter partner

Sheffield council and Sheffield One are seeking a development partner for the Vicar Lane and Campo Lane site in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter.

The 0.2ha (0.5-acre) site has been earmarked for a mixed-use scheme including a café, bar and shops on the ground floor, and offices and flats on the upper floors.

Sheffield Ones chief executive Alison Nimmo said: “The site occupies an excellent location between the core of the city centre and the commercial district, and close to the major development projects of Leopold Street and the work underway at Hartshead Square, to create a new public square and high-quality office space. An innovative and forward-thinking investor could make this a really unique and exciting mixed-use development which would do much to stimulate further investment in the area.”

Bob Kerslake, chief executive of Sheffield council, said: “The Cathedral Quarter has begun to benefit from the redevelopment momentum that has been building rapidly since the launch of the city-centre masterplan. Some of the splendid Georgian and Victorian properties are reverting to residential use and new cafes and bars are being established. We believe that the time is right for a very successful development to proceed on this pivotal site.”

The closing date for interested parties to submit offers is 3 August 2001.
