Property and construction industries forge alliance

The property and construction industries have today jointly created the Design in Construction Alliance (DiCA), which aims to be “a dedicated interface between the design and construction processes”.

DiCA will initially concentrate on such issues as the use of design quality indicators and the ability of the planning system to reward good design. Sir Stuart Lipton, chairman of CABE, one of DiCA’s main progenitors, said: “The built environment suffers from having a wide number of representative bodies, who often seem to operate in isolation. It is time for design and construction interests to present a united front both to government and to industry so that those changes result in higher quality buildings and spaces.”

DiCA comprises: British Property Federation, represented by director William McKee; CABE, represented by chairman Sir Stuart Lipton; Confederation of Construction Clients, represented by chairman Mike Roberts; Construction Industry Council, represented by chairman Michael Dickson; Major Contractors Group, represented by chairman Keith Clarke; Movement for Innovation (Rethinking Construction), represented by chairman Alan Crane; Office of Government Commerce, represented by construction director Deryk Eke; Urban Design Alliance, represented by chairman Mark Whitby.
