St Modwen scoops Rover Longbridge partnership

MG Rover has chosen St Modwen as development partner for the regeneration of surplus land at its car production site in Longbridge, near Birmingham.

Birmingham-based St Modwen will now produce proposals for 50 acres at the 420-acre site, located on either side of the A38, south east of Birmingham.

The masterplan will be drawn up over the next six months in consultation with Birmingham city council and Advantage West Midlands. It is expected that the site will yield around 70,000 sq m (750,000 sq ft) of predominantly industrial space, with residential development in the north. The site will be developed over five to seven years.

Richard Froggatt, an executive director of St Modwen, said: “This is a particularly significant regeneration project and we are delighted to have been selected by MG Rover on such a prestigious scheme on our home patch.” He added that it was especially important that St Modwen had been selected for its reputation in partnering industry in strategic regeneration projects.

He said St Modwen would buy land freehold from MG Rover as it becomes necessary for development. MG Rover will take the lion’s share of the development profits.
