Developer Terrace Hill Group has been chosen by Gateshead Council to build 139,350 sq m (1.5m sq ft) of offices and R&D on a 20ha (53 acre) site at Gateshead Quays, to the south of the River Tyne.
About a third of the site will be taken up by the Knowledge Campus, which the council claims will be the UK’s first centre for “rapid product development”.
Detailed proposals will be worked up over the next six months and the first buildings should be ready in a year. Engineering and design company Express Group are working in partnership with the council, One NorthEast, and architect Red Box Design Group on the campus scheme.
Plans for the Park include 40 mixed-use buildings ranging from two to five storeys in height with one-eight storey block. The units will provide between 929m sq (10,000 sq ft) and to 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft).
