Evans of Leeds to build office in Churchill bunker

The site of Winston Churchill’s wartime bunker in north-west London is to become Evans of Leeds’ Easyspace serviced offices division’s first major scheme in the South East or Greater London.

The complex of buildings at Dollis Hill will be refurbished to provide 120,000 sq ft (11,148 sq m) of serviced offices with some light industrial space.

The decision has been prompted by the success of a small first phase of 15 units at the site, which were all let on short leases within four months of completion. Another 22 units are due for completion by summer 2002.

Evans’ managing director, John Bell, said: “We have a strategy to acquire portfolios and corporate acquisitions. We want to grow the Easyspace concept aggressively with a £30m expansion planned this year.”

Easyspace’s 11 schemes nationwide generate a rent roll of £3.5m pa. In the long term, Evans plans to double its current number of Easyspace schemes. Dunfermline, Durham and Leeds are all earmarked for future development.
