RBS banking on record Birmingham office prelet

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is looking to sign central Birminghams largest-ever office prelet.

It has emerged that RBS has a 350,000 sq ft (32,515 sq m) office requirement and has been in negotiations with the developers of four of the citys highest-profile schemes. Snow Hill, Arena Central, Brindleyplace and the Birmingham Post & Mail site are all on a confidential shortlist of potential locations for RBSs Midlands HQ.

The news follows RBSs recent decision to take a 500,000 sq ft (46,450 sq m) prelet in buildings at Allied Londons Spinningfields scheme in Manchester.

A source close to the company said the requirement has been a tightly guarded secret. “This requirement has come out of nowhere,” he said. “RBS is looking for large floorplates of 40,000 sq ft.”
