Designs agreed for focal point of Wales coastal park

Plans for the £30m Millennium Coastal Park residential and leisure scheme in Carmarthenshire, West Wales, have moved forward.

Details have been agreed for a £3m visitor complex (pictured) that will be the focal point of a park spreading over 20,000 acres (8,094ha) .

Cardiff architect Powell Dobson has been awarded the contract for the building by Carmarthenshire council and the Welsh Development Agency.

A spokesman for the council said: “The proposed visitor centre will be the focal point within the 22km stretch of stunning coastline and remaining development within the park.”

The building unfolds towards the sea culminating in the projecting decks overlooking the Gower coast. “The intention is to evoke the sculpted nature and permanence of sea defence,” said Powell Dobson partner David Dobson.
