Tishman Speyer Properties UK has been given the go-ahead by Tower Hamlets council for Aldgate Union, its 87,000 sq m (936,485 sq ft) redevelopment of the Marsh Centre on Whitechapel High St, London E1.
The US developer’s plans involve the refurbishment of the existing 30,000 sq m (322,926 sq ft) Marsh Centre and the construction of a 16-storey tower.
About 55,000 sq m (592,031 sq ft) of the completed scheme will be offices while the scheme’s atrium and ground level shops will link through to the underground shopping centre at Aldgate East tube station.
Tishman Speyer bought the site for £120m from US broker Marsh & McLennan last May.
The new scheme has been designed by architect Wilkinson Eyre.
Jones Lang LaSalle is advising.
