Irvine distribution centre sale set to spur development

Maxi Estates has sold a142,000 sq ft (13,200 sq m) section of the main building at its Tournament Park distribution scheme in Irvine, Ayrshire.

Scottish Wool paid an undisclosed fee for the space and is drawing up a planning application to separate it from the rest of the distribution centre. It also plans to add a ring road at the 700,000 sq ft (65,030 sq m) scheme, located on the site of Irvine’s former Volvo truck plant.

A further 25 acres (10ha) of development land which could accommodate a hotel, leisure space and offices remains at the 77-acre (31ha) site.

Gerry Atkinson, chairman of Maxi Group, said: “This is a major disposal which will act as the catalyst to the refurbishment of the former Volvo plant. We are ready to commence works on Phase II which will create 76,000 sq ft (7,060 sq m) of space.”

Ryden advised Maxi Estates.
