The South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) has launched its Design Review panel.
Backed by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), the panel will give free advice on the design of significant projects within the South-East region, focusing on ensuring quality design in public-funded projects.
The panel aims to comment formally on around 50 projects in the next year, ranging from proposals for major retail developments in town centres to housing, offices and industrial projects.
The panel will initially comprise around 10 members and will eventually number around 30.
SEEDA’s chief executive Anthony Dunnett said: “The panel is a fundamental element in the creation of a region able to celebrate its environment.”
The panel will work closely with local panels and CABE, which manages the national Design Review committee.
Deputy chairman of CABE and chair of the Design Review committee, Paul Finch said that the SEEDA design review panel was “a model for other regions to follow”.
