German national railway Deutsche Bahn is in talks with possible partners about possibly becoming involved in running trains in the UK.
Potential partners could include Serco or Group Four as it strives to become a pan-European transport provider.
Meanwhile, private shareholders in Railtrack have appointed Michael Crystal QC to head their legal battle for compensation for the demise of the company.
