Anchor’s away as Swindon HQ goes to market

Anchor Butter is to sell its UK headquarters, releasing a 20-acre (8ha) development opportunity in the M4 corridor.

Following its merger with Danish group Arla Foods, the New Zealand Milk (NZM) subsidiary is to consolidate its manufacturing operations in Denmark, making its 12-acre (4.9ha) factory and head office scheme in Blagrove, Swindon, surplus to requirements.

An adjoining 7-acre (3ha) site with a 40,000 sq ft (3,716 sq m) industrial building, which NZM leases from Legal & General, is also expected to be put on the market in the next few months.

Developers are believed to be keen to marry the two sites so that the factory would be supported by distribution space.

Located at junction 16 of the M4 and close to the M5, the site is expected to command interest from food manufacturers aiming to continue similar production.

The HQ is on the market for over £8.5m and will be vacated by September 2002, when production ceases.

The 225,000 sq ft (20,900 sq m) plant includes laboratories and cold stores.
