Anton Bilton’s Raven Group is planning a £10m mixed-use scheme on a former cattle market site in Newport city centre, South Wales.
The London-based developer will create homes and an 80,000 sq ft (7,432 sq m) supermarket at the Lower Dock Street site, close to the bus station.
Raven has not decided how many homes to include in the scheme, but said that it will be more than 30.
Local agents said that the developer was believed to have negotiated an option on the site from its unnamed private owner.
The scheme includes retention of a listed cattle byre fronting South Market Street and part-pedestrianisation of adjoining Tredegar Street.
Raven has appointed West Country-based lobbying company Planning Communications to win over local residents amid concerns about increased traffic levels.
