BMI is linking with Carillion and Nestor to bid to build fast-rack surgeries.
Carillion said the centres would be privately run and financed with the joint venture taking the risk rather than running them through PFI.
The health department expects to build at least 30 of the diagnostic and treatment centres over the next few years, at least some of which could be built by the private sector.
Carillion says 150 could be needed.
The news came on the day Carillion reported a rise in interim pretax profits from £8.2m to £16.1m on turnover down 8% to £892m. The company is interested in buying some of the equity stakes in PFI projects that Amey is selling.
