Big Food considers Iceland closure

More than 700 supermarket stores may come on to the market as senior executives at Big Food consider closing down the Iceland supermarket chain.

A senior source said that if the board could not fix the ailing chain, then it would shut it, despite claims last week that the worst was over.

Interim results last Thursday showed a 6.7% fall in like-for-like sales, although CEO Bill Grimsey claimed the groups performance had improved in the weeks since September 13.
