Meridian Delta lodges Dome plans

Plans for the regeneration of the Greenwich Peninsula, which include converting the Millennium Dome into a 26,000-seat arena, were today submitted to Greenwich council.

The 190-acre (77ha) development, masterplanned by Terry Farrell & Partners, will be built over the next 20 years by Meridian Delta, a consortium made up of Lend Lease and Quintain Estates.

US entertainment giant Anschutz Entertainment Group will sublet the Dome for 99 years and run the arena.

The scheme will include over 3.65m sq ft (339,085 sq m) of offices, 355,220 sq ft (32,999 sq m) of shops, a hotel and a school.

Over 10,000 new homes will be built in eight 10-storey blocks, with residential towers up to 19 storeys tall along the waterfront.

The first phase of the development, and the centrepiece of the regeneration project will include a 26,000-seat sports and entertainment arena, designed by HOK sport+venue+event architects, surrounded by 667,384 sq ft (61,999 sq m) of entertainment and leisure space inside the Richard Rogers-designed Dome.
