James Dyson is reported to have seen off a hotel owner by paying £20m for Dodington Park, South Gloucestershire.
He is said to have paid £5m more than the asking price to ensure the hotel owner did not get the property.
The vacuum cleaner entrepreneur exchanged contracts last week.
