B&Q has taken around 800,000 sq ft (74,320 sq m) of industrial space for a new northern distribution centre.
A joint venture between Scarborough Development and Clugston Estates has prelet a 792,250 sq ft (73,629 sq m) distribution warehouse to the Kingfisher subsidiary at its 200-acre (81ha) Redhouse Interchange site in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
The jv, called Redhouse Projects, has allocated a 53-acre (21.4 ha) site to the retailer.
B&Q is taking a 20-year lease with a break from the 15th year, at an initial rent of £2.87m pa, equating to £3.62 per sq ft (£38.97 per sq m).
The new centre will replace B&Q’s existing Doncaster centre, which handles much of the company’s heavier product ranges.
Construction on the unit, to be project managed by Teesland, will begin later this month, with completion set for early 2004.
The unit will include parking for 350 cars and 150 HGVs.
Redhouse Interchange is one of the largest greenfield development sites in the north of England, with planning consent for 2m sq ft (185,800 sq m) of distribution, warehousing, office space, a restaurant, a pub and a hotel.
The deal takes the total amount of space let at the scheme to 1m sq ft (92,900 sq m), following recent deals with DFS Furniture and Nu-Tools.
