St Modwen Properties have been chosen by Staffordshire council to develop a £60m mixed scheme at junction 11 of the M6 at Cannock.
To be known as the Poplars Business Park, the site will be anchored by a 60,000-sq ft Sainsbury superstore and will include a 115,000 retail park, 234,000 sq ft of business space and a major leisure complex. In addition, the developers are to build a £5m industrial park on a nearby site at Walsall Road which will provide 84,500 sq ft of accommodation.
The selection represents a second planning success for St Modwen in a matter of weeks. Last month, a three and a half year planning battle with South Staffordshire council over a £30m business park at junction 13 of the M6 was finally resolved. The DOE gave the scheme, known as Acton Gate, the green light after the council had earlier refused planning permission for the scheme.
