The people of Berwick upon Tweed have more justification than most in claiming that their town is special. Berwick has a long colourful history as a sea port and it still has an enviable number of old buildings. Over the past 15 years the Berwick upon Tweed Preservation Trust has been carrying out a building restoration programme and it is now embarking on its most ambitious project so far — the restoration of No 3 Quay Walls. This late 18th-century granary and warehouse is to be converted to provide flats, offices and craft workshops. The total cost is estimated at £460,000. The trust has opened a national appeal for £50,000 towards the project.(*) The photograph above shows part of Quay Walls from the Old Bridge, Berwick upon Tweed, with No 3 on the left.
