Land Securities have chosen the winner of their Grand Buildings architectural competition. The victor is P A Gibson of Sidell Gibson Partnership.
The runners-up were D Allford of YRM Partnership and Caroline Miller in association with James Utting. Land Securities now envisage that a planning application will be submitted within the next couple of months and that, following the awarding of a building contract, the existing structure will be demolished. The new building will cost about £30m.
Sidell Gibson Partnership’s most significant projects to date include new broadcasting studios for Thames Valley Radio in Reading for News International in 1974 and computer typesetting works for the Economist Group on behalf of Camden Typesetters in 1981. The practice is also responsible for all projects by English Courtyard Association, a sheltered housing body.
