British Telecom have bought a 14.6-acre factory site at Whitehouse Road, Ipswich, for £1.8m. The 80,000-sq ft factory has been acquired for BT & D Technologies — the communication system operation owned jointly by British Telecom and Du Pont.
The factory, which has been empty since Lucas CAV ceased their operation there in 1982, is undergoing a substantial refurbishment, rumoured to be costing between £2m and £3m.
The site was bought in two simultaneous transactions. Lucas CAV owned 8.6 acres and Ipswich council the remaining 6 acres.
Richard Ellis represented BT, and Clifford Tee & Gale advised Lucas.
