An extra £400,000 is to be made available to the five English Regional Development Organisations this year. This will bring the total, which is available for spending on industrial promotion in the North West, North East, Yorkshire and Humberside, West Midlands, Devon and Cornwall, to a maximum of £2.2m. The increased grants are being offered by the Department of Trade and Industry to enable the RDOs to expand their programmes of promotional activity. RDOs play a vital role in stimulating the prosperity of their regions by attracting inward investment, the Government believes.
