Metal Box rationalise and develop

IDC Property Investments have teamed up with Metgate Developments, the development arm of Metal Box, to build a non-food retail park in Portsmouth.

The development is on the 12.5-acre site of the former Metal Box factory at Hilsea and a planning application has been submitted for 176,000 sq ft of non-food retail warehousing with units ranging from 12,000 to 60,000 sq ft plus a 10,000-sq ft garden centre and parking for 850 cars.

B&Q, Halfords and Texas Homecare are among the companies who have already expressed interest in the project, which has an estimated completed investment value of £14m. Agents for the scheme are Bernard Thorpe & Partners and Dron & Wright.

Crawley site

Metal Box are also selling an 11.5-acre site in Crompton Way, Crawley, West Sussex, which has planning consent for 154,000 sq ft of light-industrial space. Likely buyers are A J Hucklow and a 63,000-sq ft unit has been reserved for Metal Box.
