This month I have received information about two property management systems to add to an already bulging file! Property management has certainly attracted considerable interest from the software industry and selecting a system is a daunting task for users. So if you are in the process of investigating packages the following information should help to confuse you further.
The first system, called Manhattan, has in fact been around for a number of years. However, the rights to the software have just been acquired by Thornhill Business Systems Ltd. Thornhill claim that the package provides a highly flexible solution to the management of rental income and expenditure. They state that the high operating speed of the system has enabled users to reduce demand issuing time, improve cash flow and reduce administrative costs. And they add that in addition to accounting facilities, Manhattan provides an easily accessed database of property information.
Manhattan, it is claimed, may be run on over 80 of the most popular mini- and microcomputers. And Thornhill will be using their computer consultancy expertise to give full support to the software throughout the country. Further information from Ian Lowe, Sales Manager, Thornhill Computer Services, 41 Princess Street, Knutsford, Cheshire WA16 6BW (0565 53411).
The second example involves the Hanover Acceptances group, who have just ordered a bespoke software accounting and property management system from Tamar Computer Services. The system will be used by their subsidiary Fineman Lever, a company responsible for managing more than 4,500 units of residential and commercial property.
The Tamar solution will operate on an IBM System 36 computer with 30 terminals and PCs based at the group’s offices in Hans Road, London. It will handle all property matters including service charges, insurance claims, repairs, rates and rent reviews, billing and cash receipts, arrears and litigation, accountancy and order processing.
Gerald Fox, chief executive of Fineman Lever & Co Ltd, said of the system: “As well as an invaluable administrative tool, the new system will provide a powerful analysis, planning and decision-making aid to management. It will be the most advanced and comprehensive property management system in the UK.”
