County & District Properties are proposing a regional shopping centre of around 1m sq ft on the Tanhouse Pit site, near the junction of the M4 and M25 — 3 miles from where ARC Properties are proposing a similar-sized project at Wraysbury, Berks.
Although the area is designated green belt, C&D feel that the poor quality of the site may prove it an exception to the recent government “get-tough” on green belt development.
Recently ARC appealed to Berkshire council over non-determination of their planning application. They have applied for lettable floorspace of about 877,000 sq ft of which 300,000 sq ft would be taken up by a department store. Around 95,000 sq ft is allocated to leisure and related activities.
