London & Edinburgh Trust and Tarmac have put in their application to develop the Royal Albert Docks, where Rosehaugh-Stanhope are also bidding for the London Docklands Development Corporation’s approval of their rival scheme.
The LET/Tarmac £1bn proposal covers 260 acres on the north side of the dock and includes 2.25m sq ft of mixed residential and business space, 1.25m sq ft of shopping, 800,000 sq ft of leisure facilities with a 20,000-seat sports stadium and a conference centre.
Scott, Brownrigg Turner have been engaged as lead architects and the consortium is planning “French and Latin quarters”, a floating market and “Kew-style winter gardens”. Healey & Baker and Leslie Lintott & Associates are the joint development consultants.
As we reported on July 4, Rosehaugh-Stanhope have submitted an application covering the same site; theirs involves 2.5m sq ft of business space and over 1,000 new homes.
