BSI in giant Chiswick deal

The British Standards Institution is to occupy the entire 145,000-sq ft office building at 389 Chiswick High Road, W4.

The deal enables existing occupier IBM to relocate into three buildings — totalling 185,000 sq ft — at the 343,000-sq ft Bedfont Lakes office scheme, near the A30 in west London.

Details of the BSI transaction remain confidential. British Rail Property Board owns the freehold and IBM’s headlease expires in 2001. The block was built in the early 1960s and has not been refurbished since 1982.

BSI currently occupies 50,000 sq ft at 2 Park Street, W1, and four other offices in Shepherd’s Bush, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes and Manchester.

Healey & Baker and Moss & Partners advised BSI, while Weatherall Green & Smith acted for IBM.
