M4 take-up boom

Industrial and warehouse lettings along the M4 corridor in the first half of the year were up 32,516m2 (350,000 sq ft) on the last six months of 1996, according to a survey by Reading agent Fryer Gilbert & Jepps. Stock has declined by 27,870m2 (300,000 sq ft) to 139,355m2 (1.5m sq ft) in 116 buildings, with no significant new development. Reading was the best performing town with 43,323m2 (466,325 sq ft) of take-up.

Changing places

Peter Matthews has left Jones Lang Wootton where he was a partner to join Savills as head of property management. The appointment follows the departure of Nick Lahey-Bean who quit Savills to become head of real estate for NCR Corporation. Matthews will be in charge of a department responsible for the management of £2bn of property across the UK.
