Crest Nicholson’s Bristol leisure under fire from locals

Crest Nicholson’s £300m proposed development for Bristol’s Harbourside has been condemned by local conservation groups.

Bristol Civic Society chairman Jim White is calling for the removal of the cinema, all of the office element in the scheme – and a drastic reduction in the size of the proposed underground car park.

The Civic Society has now written to Environment Secretary John Prescott urging him to call in the plan.

Dorothy Brown, chairman of the Bristol Visual and Environment Group, called the scheme “the harbourside of horrors”.

Mark Stanley-Smith, regional director for Crest Nicholson, said: “The development was planned within local guidelines and has been welcomed by other local groups.”
