St Enoch to lose leisure for flats

Plans for a £170m leisure-box redevelopment of Glasgow’s St Enoch Centre have been dropped in favour of a residential scheme.

Stannifer and Miller Developments – joint venture partners for the scheme – are considering putting up to 300 flats on the 4.5 acre NCP car park site on Stockwell Street due to weaker demand for leisure. Selfridges has announced plans to set up shop nearby.

Original plans were for a 350,000 sq ft leisure box, to be anchored by a 20-screen cinema.

Douglas Smith, development surveyor at Stannifer, said: “We have pulled the plug on our original plans.”
