Green light for controversial Winchester park-and-ride scheme

The Court of Appeal has made a ruling that will effectively give the go-ahead to a controversial park-and-ride scheme in Winchester.

Conservationists had attacked the scheme, and challenged the council’s offer of an alternative grassland site.

In the High Court, the protestors were awarded an order that the council should reconsider their offer, but the Court of Appeal has now overturned that ruling.

Murray v Hampshire County Council Court of Appeal (Brooke and Carnwath LJJ and Nelson J) 14 May 2003.
