Herbert Smith has advised Chelsfield, Stanhope and London & Continental Railways on the Stratford City planning proposal, which it claims is the largest single planning application ever received by a council within the M25.
The application for outline planning permission, submitted to Newham Council at the end of April, sets out proposals for a £3bn development on a 73ha brownfield site in Stratford, east London. The scheme includes 4,500 homes for 11,000 residents, commercial office space of 465,000m2 and a 150,000m2 metropolitan centre comprising department stores and 120 shops and cafés.
The development surrounds the Stratford Channel Tunnel Rail Link international station, which will open in 2007. Herbert Smith advised long-standing client London & Continental Railways late last year on the regeneration deal with developers Chelsfield and Stanhope.
