Banks urge vetting for buyers of football clubs

Tony Banks, the former sports minister, has called for new owners of football clubs to be vetted following Roman Abramovich’s purchase of a majority shareholding in Chelsea Village last week.

The Financial Services Authority is investigating several transactions in Chelsea Village shares on the Alternative Investment Market prior to the takeover.

There is unrest that one Chelsea Village’s new directors, Richard Creitzman, served as Russian development director at Enron, albeit briefly.
