Selby District Council’s plans to redevelop Tadcaster’s Chapel Street car park have suffered a setback.
The council which, in April, granted themselves planning permission to give the site a £500,000 overhaul have had to review their decision following after objections from a local business, Samuel Smith Old Brewery (Tadcaster).
At a 30-second hearing before Deputy High Court Judge Rabinder Singh QC, the council agreed to scrap the permission. The proposal must now be reconsidered.
The brewery owns land adjacent to the car park and objected to the council’s plans on the basis they were not in keeping with the area’s conservation status.
However, with the consent of the council, the judge yesterday formally quashed the planning consent.
