Richard Rogers Partnership is to masterplan the £500m redevelopment of Bracknell town centre.
Clients Legal & General and Schroder joined forces earlier this year to work on a 1.2m sq ft mixed-use development.
They have replaced the previous architectural consultants – who worked on the rival schemes for the site – with Lord Rogers’ firm and retail architect Chapman Taylor. Stanhope, normally an office specialist, is to be the development manager.
The New Bracknell Co has been set up to run the project.
It is headed by David Gregory, who previously worked at Chartwell Land.
Gregory said: “Historically, large schemes in town centres tended to have shopping centres bolted on.
“Here, the whole of the town centre will be affected, either by redevelopment or refurbishment, and to do this you need different architectural skills.”
Bracknell will include 900 homes and 500,000 sq ft (46,450 sq m) of offices as well as at least 600,000 sq ft (55,740 sq m) of shops, a hotel and leisure.
