WDA considers moving HQ out of Cardiff

The Welsh Development Agency (WDA) is considering moving its headquarters from Cardiff to a mixed-use scheme which it is backing for a site 12 miles from the city.

The WDA and Scarborough Developments – the landlord of the agency’s 34,500 sq ft (3,205 sq m) Cardiff HQ on Kingsway – have submitted a joint planning application for a 47-acre (19ha) business park with housing at Talbot Green, near Llantrisant.

A spokeswoman for the WDA confirmed that the agency was considering relocating its own staff from Cardiff, where it occupies a total of three buildings.

A move out of the Welsh capital is likely to prove controversial: the agency’s presence is widely seen as vital to Cardiff’s status as a major UK city.

The Talbot Green site at Parc Mwyndy lies on both sides of the A4119 and is situated within one of the poorer Objective 1 EU-assisted areas of the South Wales Valleys.
