Pam Alexander has been appointed as chief executive of the South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA).
Alexander, a non-executive director of quoted property company Quintain and chairman of housing association Peabody Trust, was formerly the chief executive of English Heritage.
She will resign her position on the board of Quintain when she begins her new role at SEEDA.
