Woolwich town centre, in south-east London, will get a huge boost with the news that the Docklands Light Railway is to be extended under the Thames to Woolwich Arsenal.
The £145m, 2.5km (1.6-mile) extension is expected to be finished by 2008.
The line is already being lengthened from the City of London to London City airport and North Woolwich. This will be completed next year.
