House of Fraser is planning new openings in Croydon, and High Wycombe, Norwich and Northern Ireland over the next 18 months totalling 450,000 sq ft (41,805 sq m).
However, it has ruled out any more small “boutique” stores.
Less profitable outlets are being closed and sold off.
John Coleman, chief executive, refused to comment on the prospect of a bid for the £942.5m turnover department store chain.
Tom Hunter and Minerva are both thought to be interested in buying the business although analysts think the company is currently too expensive to acquire.
