Developer chosen for Cheshire Police HQ regeneration scheme

Chester-based Liberty Properties has been selected to develop the site of the former Cheshire Constabulary headquarters in a multi-million-pound regeneration project.

A hotel and conference centre or business complex are thought to be the favourite options for the 3.5 acre (1.42ha) site, which overlooks Chester Racecourse.

Plans have yet to be submitted to council planners.

Liberty’s appointment follows a lengthy tender process and ends months of speculation surrounding the 75,364 sq ft (7,001 sq m) former police HQ, which used to be known as Castle Esplanade.

The 10 storey-building has long been regarded as an eyesore.

Liberty has already developed over 150,000 sq ft (13,935 sq m) of commercial in the Chester area and 50,000 sq ft of retail in the city.
