WDA selects Discovery for Swansea docks leisure scheme

Discovery Properties has been selected by the Welsh Development Agency (WDA) to develop a £50m waterfront leisure scheme as part of the regeneration of Swansea’s docks.

The proposals, part of the £200m SA1 project which fronts on to the Prince of Wales Dock, include a casino, multi-screen cinema, bowling centre and A3 units.

Discovery will also work alongside City Lofts to develop a 14-storey tower of 84 flats.

WDA area development manager Steve Piper said “The transformational importance of this latest investment cannot be underestimated especially when set against the number of other high-profile, multi-million-pound projects that are planned or under construction in the city.”

A planning application is expected later this year with units becoming available in summer 2006.

Paul Clark, director of Discovery, added: “We are aware of demand from national cinema, casino and bowling companies already interested in the proposed scheme and we are confident of the successful outcome of the proposed development.”

The 100-acre (40.47ha) SA1 regeneration scheme was masterplanned by Benoy and includes a £1m ‘floating bubble’ visitor centre.

Bellway Homes has been selected to develop a 146-home scheme as part of SA1.
