The Corporation of London wants to use a levy on planning gain to pay for another member of staff to negotiate section 106 agreements.
At a meeting of the corporation’s planning committee last month, City planning officer Peter Rees announced that the new post would be created and funded with an estimated levy of 1% on the £7m planning gain expected each year.
The new role will include negotiating with developers and the GLA.
Rees said: “The post is designed to free the planning officers who are working on the section 106 agreements to be able to get on with more planning applications.
“We need to have a post that can put together agreements and achieve consistency between the various 106 deals that are being entered into between developers and the City.”
In its draft supplementary planning guidance, the corporation suggests a guideline contribution of £70 per sq m gained on buildings larger than 108,000 sq ft or extensions of over 21,500 sq ft.
