EP buys bus site to drive Swindon

English Partnerships has bought a 2.5-acre bus depot site that will move the regeneration of Swindon town centre a step forward.

The depot forms part of around 30 acres identified for development by the New Swindon Company, which includes EP, Swindon borough council and the South West Regional Development Agency.

The urban regeneration company intends to transform the Thamesdown Transport site off Fleming Way into a new commercial scheme called The Exchange.

The Exchange will include offices, housing, shops, cafés and restaurants, and New Swindon will seek development partners in the next few months.

“This is a significant step towards making The Exchange project a reality,” said Peter Andrews, chief executive of New Swindon Company.

The Exchange is one of a number of sites being promoted by New Swindon, including The Promenade, potentially a new site for the University of Bath’s Institute of Contemporary and Interdisciplinary Arts, and The Hub, an extension of the Brunel Shopping Centre.
