Minerva chairman David Garrard is personally giving £2m towards the £10m Bexley Business Academy in south-east London.
The academy will replace Thamesmead Community College. It is one of three initial secondary schools in England that will focus on teaching business and enterprise.
The other two will be The City of London Academy in Southwark and one in Walsall, in the West Midlands. Thomas Telford Comprehensive is investing £1m in the Walsall institution.
