Shaftesbury hires Merrill Lynch

Shaftesbury has appointed Merrill Lynch as joint company brokeralongside Dresdner Kleinwort Benson. The highly regarded former DKB analysts, Robert Fowlds and Alec Pelmore, joined Merrill Lynch this month.

Pillar acquires C W Harris

Pillar has bought CW Harris Properties, the private company owned by Carpetright founder Lord Harris of Peckham, for £15.6m. Harris owns five retail warehouses, valued at a total of £49m.

VIT issues 7.73% debenture

Value and Income Trust has issued a £15mdebenture at a 7.73% gross yield. Matthew Oakshott and Angela Lascelles, jointinvestment directors at VIT, said the debenture was the cheapestlong-term borrowing achieved by aninvestment trust for more than 30 years.

Standard life:

Last week’s profile on Standard Life should have read: “Kingsland Business Park in Basingstoke was sold for £43m to Brixton Estate”, not “Newton Abbott shopping centre was sold to Allied London” as stated. Newton Abbott was sold for £6m. Also, the table on page 43 headed Standard Life main fund portfolio incorrectly listed the Paris holding as £20m. It should have read £240m.
