Dot.com fever has hit the auction market. Conrad Ritblat is preparing to auction off nine property-related domain names at its next London sale on 17 May.
Although Allsop can lay claim to having been the first auction house to have offered a domain name – in February for charity – Conrad Ritblat is claiming to be the first to do so on a commercial basis.
Associate director Stephen Bellau said that the initial response was “phenomenal” and that other would-be vendors had already approached the firm.
“We will be guiding and reserving at about £200 each and I’m sure some will go extremely well,” he said, adding that the vendor was “property-related” and a former client, for which the firm had “done a good job in the past” selling tangible property.
According to Conrad Ritblat, some of the better domains have already traded for over £500,000.
