Citibank House readied for major redevelopment

Citibank House in Aldwych is set for a major office-based redevelopment.

The group of Scandinavian investors that owns the WC2 building has appointed architect Rolfe Judd to draw up plans for the 180,000 sq ft-plus redevelopment.

The building is used as surplus space for Citibank but staff will move to Canary Wharf when its lease expires later this year.

Andrew Sim of Knight Frank, which acts for the owners, said that the redevelopment would be undertaken by the Scandinavian group rather than being sold on to another developer as previously planned.

The current owners bought the building for around £50m in 1999 and had planned a five-star hotel on the site, but talks with a hotel operator broke down.
