The development company part-owned by Kwik-Fit founder Sir Tom Farmer is to create a new village in West Lothian, Scotland.
This week, Morston Assets announced plans for the £150m scheme on a 125-acre (50.5ha) former brickworks site, near Linlithgow.
The Norfolk-based developer’s proposals for the former Vesuvius Refractories plant – which closed last year with 1,200 job losses – includes nearly 1,000 new homes and up to 500,000 sq ft of commercial space, including retail, offices and industrial units.
Plans also include upgrading the link road to the nearby junction 4 of the M9 and making use of the Glasgow/ Edinburgh main rail line, which runs adjacent to the site.
Morston is expected to appoint development partners for both the residential and commercial elements of the scheme.
A consultation period is under way and local authority Falkirk council is also reviewing its local development plan for the area. The local plan could be adopted in under three years, which would allow work to begin on site by 2006. In the meantime, the 1m sq ft of factory space will be relet.
